Ah, Christmas movies! Every year, as soon as November arrives, I get excited about rewatching my all-time favorites—those films that instantly transport me into the warm and magical atmosphere of the holidays. There’s nothing better than a cozy blanket, a cup of hot chocolate, and a good Christmas movie to fully embrace the spirit of the season.
In 2024, the magic continues with new releases that promise to become future classics. Today, I’m sharing my favorite Christmas movies along with some of this year’s most anticipated releases that absolutely deserve a spot on your holiday watchlist.
1. “Love Actually” (2003)
Is it even possible to talk about Christmas movies without mentioning “Love Actually”? For me, this film is the quintessential Christmas movie. This British romantic comedy weaves together stories of love and friendship as they unfold during the lead-up to Christmas. Every year, I can’t help but laugh, smile, and even shed a tear while watching the touching stories of these endearing characters.
Whether it’s the Prime Minister’s tale (played by Hugh Grant) or the more heartbreaking story of Emma Thompson’s character, this movie perfectly captures the tenderness and excitement of the holiday season.
2. “The Holiday” (2006)
Another classic I revisit each year is “The Holiday”. I never get tired of this story of two women (Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet) who swap homes for the holidays to escape their complicated love lives. The cozy English cottage and snowy California scenes create the perfect backdrop to immerse yourself in the holiday spirit. It’s a film full of warmth and romance, ideal for warming your heart during those long winter nights.
3. “Home Alone” (1990)
Ah, “Home Alone”! Who can resist the adventures of Kevin McCallister, left alone at home during Christmas? This film is a true nostalgic favorite that makes me laugh just as much no matter how many times I’ve seen it. Between Kevin’s ingenious traps and the iconic John Williams score, it’s the perfect family movie to watch together.
Humor, adventure, and emotion blend to create a timeless film that hasn’t lost any of its magic, more than 30 years after its release.
4. The Harry Potter Saga (2001–2011)
While the Harry Potter films aren’t strictly Christmas movies, it has become almost a tradition to watch them during the holiday season. Why? Between the magical snowy scenes at Hogwarts, the grand feasts, and the warm friendships that blossom, this saga has that cozy, enchanting atmosphere that fits perfectly with the season. Every year, I take great pleasure in rediscovering the adventures of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, especially those charming Christmas scenes in each film.
5. The Polar Express (2004)
A magical animated film that takes you on a journey to the North Pole.
6. The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
The adventures of two kids who meet the real Santa Claus.
7. Klaus (2019)
A beautiful animated film that reinvents the origin of Santa Claus.
8. Falling for Christmas (2021)
A romantic comedy set in a snowy town that brings all the classic Christmas vibes.
9. Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
A heartwarming classic about believing in the spirit of Christmas.
10. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Jim Carrey stars as the iconic character who tries to steal Christmas.
11. The Princess Switch (2018)
A fun and light-hearted film where a princess and a baker switch lives.

A quirky comedy about a Christmas Eve that goes off the rails.

A romantic story set under the Californian sun but filled with Christmas spirit.
The 2024 New Releases: My Anticipations
Each year brings a new batch of Christmas films, and 2024 is no exception. Here are a few new releases that I’m looking forward to, and that I’m sure will add a fresh touch to my cozy holiday movie marathons:
“A Snowy Romance” (2024)
Get ready to melt for “A Snowy Romance”, a romantic comedy that promises to be the ultimate winter cuddle-up film. The story follows a young woman from the city who, after an unexpected turn of events, finds herself stuck in a small snowy town over the holidays. With a charming cast and a heartwarming plot, this film looks perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit.
“The Christmas Carousel” (2024)
This movie is already highly anticipated this year. “The Christmas Carousel” tells the story of a prince in search of love and a carousel restorer who finds herself falling for him (and the snowy kingdom!) while working at the royal palace. Sure, the plot may be classic, but if you’re like me, Christmas fairy tales are simply irresistible!
“A Gift for Christmas” (2024)
If you love movies with a bit of mystery, “A Gift for Christmas” might just be your new favorite. This film tells the story of a mysterious man who appears in a small town on Christmas Eve, bringing with him a gift capable of changing everyone’s lives. With a blend of drama, magic, and hope, this film checks all the boxes for a great Christmas movie.
“Christmas in Paris” (2024)
I’m very curious to see “Christmas in Paris”, a romantic comedy in which an American woman is sent on a mission to organize a major Christmas event in Paris, only to find herself rethinking her life after meeting a charming Frenchman. The beautifully lit Parisian backdrops during the holidays will surely add a magical, dreamy touch to the film.
